Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank has announced the delivery of over AED 245,000 on behalf of Emirates Wildlife Society in association with the World Wild Fund for Nature Fund (EWS-WWF), a non-profit environmental conservation organisation.
The money, raised via the Bank’s ATMs and internet banking platforms throughout 2014, is earmarked for EWS-WWF to focus on environmental issues of relevance to the UAE, such as climate change, energy, biodiversity, habitat conservation as well as education and awareness. ADCB has been supporting EWS-WWF’s environmental initiatives as a platinum corporate member since 2012. Over the past 3 years, ADCB has raised more than AED 675,000 through its e-platforms, and has provided direct contributions through memberships, sponsorships, participation in Earth Hour, educational seminars and workshops.
In 2014, ADCB participated in Earth Hour and sponsored the EWS-WWF “Heroes of the UAE Private Sector Programme event: Reducing the UAE’s Carbon Footprint – A Corporate Heroes Award Ceremony and Workshop,” which recognized organizations that have successfully reduced their carbon emissions by at least 10 percent during the year.
Dr. Majdi Abdul Mudhi, Head of Corporate Communications at ADCB, stated: “ADCB’s continued partnership with EWS-WWF proudly demonstrates our commitment to support the Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 with regards to sustainability. Through our efforts, we have helped to raise funds for the organization as well as awareness of relevant environmental issues to our community. ADCB aims to be an active corporate citizen by using our banking channels to help address environmental challenges in the UAE and support the EWS-WWF’s efforts to meet the needs of the future.”
In special recognition of ADCB’s ongoing support, Ida Tillisch, Director General of EWS-WWF stated: "Through our joint collaboration, ADCB has better enabled our organization to further our conservation work, tackling climate change and protecting precious habitats and species. We would like to thank ADCB and everyone who participated in the program. Every dirham is making a positive difference for our environment, as all contributions continue to support our many important environmental conservation and education programs across the UAE."
EWS-WWF is dedicated to protecting species and habitats, reducing the ecological footprint and contributing to policy and institutional framework to address environmental issues across the UAE.
Emirates Wildlife Society was established in the UAE in 2001, and is working with WWF, one of the world’s most respected environmental organizations. By working in partnership with people and institutions, EWS-WWF aims to conserve the unique and precious biodiversity of the UAE and the region, and tackle climate change through education, awareness, policy, and science-based conservation initiatives.
